I RECENTLY WROTE a post about siblings who match (you can catch up on it here), inspired by the mysterious photos of sisters Noreene and Maurine that thousands of people pored over on our homepage. Writing about that topic was too much fun to let go, so I’m featuring some of my favorite “We Match” photos in a slide show below. Some are of people I know, and some are of compelling strangers from Flickr.
This, of course, is just the beginning. Send your “We Match” photos (just in time for Easter!) to claimingsisterhood [at] gmail [dot] com.
Thank you to all the Flickr users who provided the photos:
• ‘Nieces and Aunt’ from spygrandson
• ‘Christmas Jammies” from Erin Claassen Photography
• ‘1947 Swimsuits’ from mcbriartyt
• ‘Mary Janes’ is from CarlaCarlaCarlaCarla
• ‘Mom and Daughter’ is from Delta Niner (aka Paul McRae)
• ‘First Communion’ from Missis Jones (she’s Barbara)
• ‘3 Sisters’ from Darshy (her blog, here)
• ‘Watermelons’ from Leedav
• ‘Vintage Postcard’ from chicks57
(And there’s lots more in a “We Match” Flickr group)
Becky (who provided the ‘Miss America’ and ‘Ghost Town’ photos) runs a delightful blog about sisters and knitting called ‘Needles of Iron,’ TSP’s Marion has written about her before on the site.

I just realized that five out of these 15 photos have at least one redhead!
My mom and I have a habit of showing up places wearing similar outfits … and it also happens with some of my sister-friends. Psychic wardrobe connection? More likely a holdover from the days when we all shared clothes…
Welcome Laurie! Funny, because one of my high school friends recently told me a similar story. She says that her mom and her mom’s sister always show up wearing nearly identical outfits, no matter what the occasion! I’m guessing your hypothesis is correct–once identical dressers, always identical dressers.
I looked…to see if
#1 there were any of my sister and me
or
#2 there were any of my daughters, who I dressed alike!
oh Becky, thanks for the reminder! I remember seeing your lovely array of photos featuring your sister and you a few weeks back on your website. I’m heading over there now to harvest 1 or 2 for the next edition of TSP’s “We Match.” Or maybe I’ll see if I can’t sneak them in right here!
I LOVE these. I’m going to have to dig around to see if I have any pictures of me and my mom in the matching outfits (oh, so 70s!) she used to sew for us….
What fun that you found some iof us to use! I was really just musing about the fact that we often matched.
Yes, Paige! Even singletons can join in this game (see photo # 9).
@Becky, I’m thrilled that you mentioned you and your sister “dearest” because I adore that photo of the “Future Miss America” sweatshirts that you posted on Needles of Iron. All your family photos are quite touching. Thanks for contributing!
I’m gonna use the term compelling strangers in casual conversation today.
As for the redheads, that’s easy: They photograph so well and make such lovely subjects. With help from the 1940′s Texas sun, my mother was particularly freckle-faced.
Thanks for dropping By Carla(x4)! And thanks for letting us use your adorable pic.
We do have a particular fondess for redheads here at TSP (see http://thesisteproject.com/roch for more on that) Marion actually wrote a book called ‘Roots of Desire’ all about red hair And she happens to be a redhead, herself.
I dunno how much this counts, but are you aware of this fabulous old French musical called Les Demoiselles de Rochefort? This is one of the numbers:

In which you can see Catherine Deneuve and her real-life sister playing twins who wear matching outfits throughout the film. This is one of my favorite sister movies, as well as one of my favorite sisters-who-match looks.
Alex – I remember seeing ‘Les Demoiselles de Rochefort’ when I was younger! Very cool…and I love Catherine Deneuve. Thanks for the link!
