SEEING HOW HALLOWEEN IS now over, I thought some of you may be having residual cravings for a scare. Well, look no further. This old (not so) favorite is from the feministing archives. (Shudder.) P.S. More vintage sexism in our gallery of horrors.

Wonderful!
What amazes me is how many young, middle-aged and my age – ageless – women continue to accept these oppressive role models. Hopefully educating and informing via “entertaining” will shock some of these women awake and move them to slide out from under the male dominant thumb.
It’s amazing that these ads were EVER acceptable. Criminal! We have a long way to go, but we have also come a long way.
this is so fucked up!
That tigers tail is up! Do you see that? I’ve seen that look on someones face before and it says “watch out! The first one now will later be last and I will soon kick your”…. As long as we see each other as different we will always have adds like this. It is only when we see our self in others that stupid adds like this will go away. It doesn’t matter who’s on top. We have to have pity on someone who would write words like the words in this add. Sounds like a looser to me. Thank you Anna.
Glen,
I agree, but it’s also important to remember that this ad is created in the context of a patriarchal society. It’s important to see people as equals, but it’s okay to recognize and celebrate our differences without resorting to a hierarchy (of gender, race, class, and more).
When will it no longer be a patriarchal society? What will have to happen? What event? As long as one person thinks it’s a patriarchal world then it will be just that. I never said we are equal nor do I ever want to be equal to anyone. We have to see ourself in each other, then patriarchal, hierarchy, gender, race, and class all goes away. I don’t want to celebrate our differences, I want to ignore them.
