IF YOU HAVEN’T POKED around the other corners of The Sister Project in a while, you may have missed some of our fantastic posts on the sisterhood of crafts. And what I mean by “may have missed” is totally missed, because I have been the lamest crafter among the blogging sisters of TSP…until now.
As a part of my mission to decorate my (soon to be) new apartment with thrift, I downloaded a free sewing pattern from spool.com to make a mobile of fabric birds! (The finished product should look like this.) What’s additionally awesome, is that I made my birds exclusively from fabric scraps and wool batting that I found around our house–which brings the total cost of this project to: FREE! I can’t wait to start the actual making of the mobile part. I’ll certainly keep you readers posted with more photos when it’s done.
Craving more crafty news and projects? Here are some of my favorite craft posts from elsewhere on The Sister Project that are not to be missed:
- Delightful interview with best friends and founders of Mason Dixon Knitting in the TSP Galleries.
- Unusual knitting project idea: hot pink knit uterus!
- Saying it with crewel words: snarky needlework on display.

WOW. You go girl, that’ll be one awesome mobile.. I am very proud of you and sad to say it looks like my origami mobile is going to need an upgrade after yours debuts in your apt.
nice work anna. my origami turtle totally makes kates mobile work. my mom has a mobile like that.
No offense to the mobile you made for French class to represent French culture (which, for those of you who didn’t see it, prominently displayed a wine bottle), but I think this is your best mobile yet. I look forward to the finished project.
Good for you, crafting is the best. Love the picture, especially the picture frame moved to allow a plug in the wall.
What a great mobile! …And there’s no such thing as being a lame crafter. :-) Can’t wait to see what you make next!
@Susan, isn’t that funny? Moving the picture for the plug always disrupts my mother’s sense of fung shui but I sort of like the off-kilter look.
@Sister D – I’m so delighted to have the supreme craftess’ stamp of approval! Thanks for keeping my crafting self-esteem up.
Is that a Singer Featherweight? Ooooh! Jealousy!
Nicely done effort. I just love it when a seamstress is born.
Love your Singer. I have a Singer, circa 1976 which has a buttonhole maker, oh yeah. My first plan (actually I should say my mother’s) for a degree was in Home Economics. Is that even a degree plan anymore? I became an RN, but do still love to craft :)
