Sister Jams (Not Jellies)

AS 2008 WINDS DOWN, it’s that time of year when so many people like to ponder and then make lists about what they liked best about the previous 12 months. So it is only appropriate to share a cut off my own personal list “Best Music of 2008.” Especially so, because it features the heavenly harmonies of identical twin sisters Chandra and Leigh Watson. Fire Songs is The Watson Twins’ full-length debut. (You may have heard them sing backup on Jenny Lewis’ 2006 album Rabbit Fur Coat.) The first single off Fire Songs, “How Am I To Be,” is featured above. And I do love those polka-dot dresses.

You know I am a Watson Twins fan, too, and this song really does stand out among 2008 contenders. But it makes me wonder what the rest of your list is, of course, and whether all of them are in my iTunes yet…

i came across your literary works. They are well written, but please don’t leave The Hold Steady album, “Stay Positive” off your best music of 2008. Maybe they don’t meet the sisterproject criteria, but they rock. Keep writing. Long time no see.

Margaret, a list exchange is in order! I want to know what’s on yours too…

And Billy, Stay Positive is a contender, but certainly not my favorite Hold Steady album, and how does it ranks among their past albums for the Derrick boys?

I’m also curious what else would be on your list, Anastasia, as well as yours Margaret. Even though I’ve been hearing best of 2008 count-downs on the radio I hadn’t thought about what would make my list until now.
I think my list would have to consist of my favorite new discoveries of the year rather than new releases. If you were to make such I list I wonder if Brooke Waggoner or Vivien Goldman would make it on?
