Si J’étais la Cigogne (If I Were the Stork…)

by Anastasia on November 30, 2008

If only I had been given a little French sister with a propensity for outrageous storytelling. I think we would have gotten on well together.

I just blew tea out my nose laughing. I think my favorite part is when the witch appears to guard her strawberries. That, and every time she says “hippopotame”. And “crocodile.” Oh my.

You know me: a taxonomy freak. Plants, birds, website-organizing. Among the planet’s species of storks, a couple of kinds fit into the genus Anastomus, which I have to say sounds remarkably like Anastasia. Hmmm….maybe you are the stork after all?
Oh, and this: If I were the stork, I would have picked you (and I think my birth sister, Marion, would have, too, gladly ceding her role as youngest). Glad that even without genetic connection we won the baby-sister jackpot.

Good research, Margaret! Taxonomy freak is one of my favorite kinds of freaks.

And kcs, that one is a close runner up to this video. It kills me when she dips the strawberry in the strawberry jam.

E–I think my parents can attest to the fact that telling myself stories has always been a favorite pastime of mine. I don’t think I’ve actually grown out of it.

Telling stories to oneself is the best route to a happy ending.
