Ok, Dooce, You’ve Got Me Now

by Anastasia on January 17, 2009

Y OU’VE PROBABLY HEARD of dooce (dot com) from any number of internet-crazed young mothers power-walking down your block or pushing jogging strollers out of Starbucks. Or perhaps you saw Ms. Dooce herself, Heather B. Armstrong, on The Today Show back in May. In any case, Heather and her blog are HUGE for the impact they’ve had in the colliding worlds of mothering blogs and dog-lover photo posting. Pooch nor child, I have not. And while I have always regarded Dooce with a certain level of awe, I haven’t ever been drawn into her posts…until now.

Eighteen weeks pregnant with her second child, Heather has been sharing some quite amusing pregnancy stories, including one entitled, “Excuse me while I go make love to a bean burrito.”  What initially caught my eye about all this pregnancy rigmarole, was a post about her 4-year-old daughter’s reaction to the pregnancy news: “The making of an older sister.” And now, she has announced via a post titled, “This kid better get used to hand-me-downs” that the future Armstrong family arrival is a girl.

So it is sisters for Dooce and family. (Although hand-me-downs were never gender specific here, chez Smith.) I’m sure there will be many more funny sister-ly anecdotes to come, which I can certainly get behind (despite the lack of dog collars and jogging strollers in my life). And thus with the title “dooced” I’ve joined the massive female conglomerate of readers.

Plus, me and Heather Armstrong have the same birthday, exactly 10 years apart–is this what my life will look like in 10 years? Perhaps, but with fewer pets and more health food.

Speaking of that birthdate, I have it on good authority that you two share it with Lizzie Borden, fyi (give or take a century and a quarter and a few other key details).
