If I Were the Stork: Not.

THIS IS A CLIP FROM a show I saw on BBC America about people who are obsessed with dolls called “Reborns” (shudder). There are lots of amazing quotes in it, but I think my favorite is, “I come here every week and sell me babies” (0:46). Read: Do not ever give me one of these. They scare the bajeezus out of me. (oops! I just noticed the video didn’t embed properly. Click it once more to watch it on YouTube.)

I watched this documentary, creeped me out beyond belief. The lady who would dress it up and take it to the park in a (human) stroller. shudder.

That is just too freakin’ weird.

Anna, I saw these on the news the other day. They were saying that some women whose babies die when they are under a year old, have replicas made so they still feel as though they have the child with them. From a psychological perspective, I’d say thats completely unhealthy, and I’d agree, creepy.

Welcome @jen, thanks for visiting! I think that woman might have been the strangest (although it’s hard to gauge in a situation like this). She even carried around a baby bottle of fake formula!

And hello to @Marty and @Liza.

Thanks for contributing your psychological perspective, Liza. In this program I saw on the BBC, there was a woman who was having her late son cast into a reborn doll. I felt so sad for her, but it’s just way too weird to have a replica made!

Yeah, I’m in the creepy camp on this one, too. I forget where I first heard of these “reborns”, but even the name is like something out of a late 70s horror flick. Dolls are fine, I like babies, but let’s draw a line between the two, shall we?

How much do they cost?

I think they cost a few hundred pounds, and there is currently like a 4 year waiting list to have one made!
