OH MY CUTENESS, I’m in love with this ticklish fur ball. And I can authoritatively say that watching those little kitten paws flail in the air is the new best cure for the blues! (See all my “If I Were the Stork” series of imagined adoptive siblings here.)

IN CELEBRATION OF CATHERINE Deneuve’s birthday (she happens to be one of my all-time favorite French leading ladies), today I’m renting Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, in which Deneuve stars alongside her sister, Françoise Dorléac. The sisters play on screen, musically inclined twins living in the seaside town of Rochefort. Tragically, Françoise was killed in a car accident shortly after the film had finished shooting in 1967, and it always gives me chills seeing Catherine perform with her. Bon Anniversaire Catherine, your strength and talent are ever-inspiring. (More movies all about sisters here. What are you favorites?)

LAST WEEK MY DAD WAS visiting me in North Carolina (hence my brief hiatus from posting here), and we spent a great afternoon at the movies seeing Whip It. My dad is over 60 and currently lives on an island in the middle of the Pacific, so he thought the movie was hokey and strange (although he did enjoy the surround sound), but I was smitten. I may even start roller skating. Alia Shawkat (of Arrested Development fame) and Ellen Page play besties in the movie, and as it turns out they’re great friends in real life! I love this interview with them (watch the full video here). I wish we could all hang out and talk sisterhood, don’t you? (Plus: for a whole heap of movies all about sisters, check out our homemade directory.)

ONE OF MY FAVORITE comediennes of all time, Sarah Haskins, sheds some light on the advertising industry’s obsession with your lady friends, in this rerun episode of “Target Women.” Classic.

THE KHEDE KASRA CAMPAIGN is empowering women in Lebanon by drawing attention to one simple punctuation mark in the Arabic language. How inspiring.

HOLY ADORABLENESS, these kids are cute. According to a New Yorker article that I read earlier this year, kids who had trouble resisting the marshmallow in an identical test to this one that took place decades ago grew up to be much more impulsive (and far less successful by society’s standards) than those who held their ground. Interesting, right? And I almost died when that little guy shoved both marshmallows in his mouth at the end there.

NOW THAT I’M LIVING alone, I’ve been considering adopting a furry friend of the feline variety to keep me company. I wouldn’t be replacing my brother T, but I do need someone to pal around with down here who will love me unconditionally. Too bad Chester the hand-holding cat already has a home. He’s perfect! Side note: I hope you aren’t fed up with the freaky animal videos I’ve been posting around here, because I just can’t get enough.

I NEVER THOUGHT I’D ever actually want a pug as a baby sister (their faces are always wet and they sniffle a lot), but here’s my exception: Jenny, the Pink Pram-Pushing Pug. This dog is fabulous.
