LAST WEEK MY DAD WAS visiting me in North Carolina (hence my brief hiatus from posting here), and we spent a great afternoon at the movies seeing Whip It. My dad is over 60 and currently lives on an island in the middle of the Pacific, so he thought the movie was hokey and strange (although he did enjoy the surround sound), but I was smitten. I may even start roller skating. Alia Shawkat (of Arrested Development fame) and Ellen Page play besties in the movie, and as it turns out they’re great friends in real life! I love this interview with them (watch the full video here). I wish we could all hang out and talk sisterhood, don’t you? (Plus: for a whole heap of movies all about sisters, check out our homemade directory.)

WHILE MY TSP PARTNERS in crime, Marion and Paige, are busy getting healthy this week–what with tackling BMI myths and detoxing out the wazoo–I am slouching in front of a computer for hours on end, eating copious amounts of Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch, and staying up so late that my eyes may permanently cross. When they suggested I write a corresponding post about my health this week, I thought about it. Then I saw these photos of Natasha Lyonne by Richard Kern for Vice Magazine, and I knew I couldn’t lie. Readers: I have not done anything healthy for days. There, I said it.
P.S. Vice is calling this photo series “Acting Out at Home.” Awesome.

IN ANTICIPATION OF MY TREK southward, I’ve been nesting like nobody’s business. In my head, I see my soon-to-be new apartment as beautiful, clean and cozy, smelling like fresh-baked muffins. (While trying to not envision all the hard work it’s going to take to get me there. Eep!) But my vision just may come true now that I’m a part of a sisterhood with such creative and generous women. THE SISTER PROJECT HAS been a-buzz in the last several weeks with the completion of our updated master movie list in The Sisterpedia. TSP’s Paige gathered all the sister movie suggestions from our blogs, your comments, and emails, and compiled them into a handy go-to list with descriptions and everything (perfect for your netflix queue). I’ve talked about some of my favorite sister movies here, here and here. But what about you? What sister flicks do you love? Have we missed any in the master list? (The clip above is for inspiration, from Mermaids.)

T and his mama in 2008.
NOW THAT I’VE BEEN writing for The Sister Project for the better part of a year, some funny interactions have emerged in my family–mostly around my brother, T. There’s been the usual “you better not post that photo of my sunburned butt on the internet” banter from the beginning. But most recently, my mom did the silliest thing: [click to continue…]

IF YOU HAVEN’T POKED around the other corners of The Sister Project in a while, you may have missed some of our fantastic posts on the sisterhood of crafts. And what I mean by “may have missed” is totally missed, because I have been the lamest crafter among the blogging sisters of TSP…until now. [click to continue…]

THERE’S BEEN A FLURRY of photos from Dina Goldstein’s series “Fallen Princesses” around the internet in the last week. And I must say, it’s been quite interesting to watch the conversation unfold. The images from Goldstein’s project were originally posted on JPG Magazine with a short description of the series in the artist’s own words. “These works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. …The ‘…happily ever after,’” Goldstein writes, “is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.” We see Cinderella drinking alone in a dive bar; Snow White is now weighed down with a deadbeat prince and four tykes. AS WE ROUND THE SIX-MONTH bend here on TSP, I’ve been reflecting on all the fantastic people that I met along the way, starting (of course) with all you lovely readers. Additionally, there have been many talented minds that lent a hand to Claiming Sisterhood during its infancy. Do you remember… [click to continue…]

ALWAYS ONE TO BE FASCINATED by unusual tattoos, I’m loving this wrist. The tattoo design is from artist Henry Darger’s Vivian Girls–”seven sisters and Abbiennian princesses.” (Read more about Darger and his fictional Vivian Girls here). I like the playfulness of the tattoo, and it’s like having a band of sisters around your wrist for life! The lucky inked lady is Kim’s friend (she has more photos). This one is via Joanna Goddard.

UM, NEWSFLASH: T HAS BASICALLY STOPPED visiting The Sister Project. Didn’t you like it better when he left clever comments around, like here and here? I’m not sure what could be more important than getting the sisterhood dish and reading up on gossip about his own life, but I suspect his absence has something to do with the following items: stocks, light beer, breasts, and the Celtics. Booooooo. Come back to us, T Money. Come back.
