BROTHER T HAS BEEN playing soccer since before, well, since before he was a brother. And these days he’s still heading and slide-tackling away. He recently helped to form a whole league of soccer players in the area to play against each other on Sundays. He rounded up his soccer buddies and found a business sponsor, had shirts made and collected money for the refs. The only problem was that he’s been scheduled to work every Sunday! ON A RECENT WEEKLY BLOG perusal, I came across these photos in a post titled Field Day. And all at once I was flooded with memories of this time of year 15, 16, 17 years ago when the whole elementary school would relocate to the comfort of the expansive track field and metal bleachers at the high school for a full day of field games and watermelon (and of course, that colorful parachute-like thing). So this elementary school scene got me thinking and thinking about my tried and true sisters of those days. The girls with whom I spoke made-up languages and I played outside until dark. My friend Leah pointed out how T on the little horse was just like Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius (who is made to look powerful on a disproportionately tiny beast).
LAST CHRISTMAS, MY MOTHER got gift certificates for T and I to have a horseback riding lesson at Roberts Woods Farm in Monterey, Massachusetts. SINCE MUCH OF WHAT I share with you on TSP is about Big Brother T (and I mean big, what with his muscles and height and deafening voice), I’ve been feeling it was time to put his more diminutive side on display. Above is a favorite photo of the two of us (plus adopted brother Fievel), and when I look at it I simply cannot believe how big T is these days.
