HOLY ADORABLENESS, these kids are cute. According to a New Yorker article that I read earlier this year, kids who had trouble resisting the marshmallow in an identical test to this one that took place decades ago grew up to be much more impulsive (and far less successful by society’s standards) than those who held their ground. Interesting, right? And I almost died when that little guy shoved both marshmallows in his mouth at the end there.

THESE DAYS, MUSTACHES have been branded as hopelessly hip, but I’m a steadfast fan. Remember one of my earliest nominations for a make-believe sister–Erin Dollar of homemade beard fame? It’s hard to think of beards in this Southeast August heat, but I keep coming across some fantastically campy mustaches around the web (including on Erin’s site), and I like what I’m seeing. Here are some of my favorites. Clockwise from top left: [click to continue…]

TSP READER Keith was so kind to send me the image above from a 1963 issue of Life. These adorable Frenchies are in the Parc de Montsouris watching Guignol puppet show at the moment the dragon is slain. Their faces remind me of one of my most beloved scenes from Truffaut’s Les quatre cent coups–remember this past “Stork” pick?

NOW THAT I’M LIVING alone, I’ve been considering adopting a furry friend of the feline variety to keep me company. I wouldn’t be replacing my brother T, but I do need someone to pal around with down here who will love me unconditionally. Too bad Chester the hand-holding cat already has a home. He’s perfect! Side note: I hope you aren’t fed up with the freaky animal videos I’ve been posting around here, because I just can’t get enough.

I NEVER THOUGHT I’D ever actually want a pug as a baby sister (their faces are always wet and they sniffle a lot), but here’s my exception: Jenny, the Pink Pram-Pushing Pug. This dog is fabulous.

GOOD GOD, HAS ANYTHING SWEETER graced the pages of the internet than the birth of Tessa Tangerine to the blogging family at Pacing the Panic Room? Don’t know what I’m talking about? (“Who gave birth to a tangerine?”) Allow me to explain how this growing family has stolen my heart. [click to continue…]

OUR FAVORITE PETITE FRENCHIE, Capucine, turned 5 last week and her mama made this tribute video for her. Isn’t it adorable? And I love that she chose the music from Amelie to go along. Bon Anniversaire Capucine! Also: Did you see her brother dressed as a clown in the first photo? How silly.

YES, I ONCE SANG SOPRANO in the Searles Middle School Chorus, but I was not very good. Sometimes I didn’t even sing, I just moved my mouth and listened to everyone else hit the right notes. (I’m a better team player these days–I swear!) These young scholars, however, make me want to join them in their serenades. They’re simply amazing (and so full of character!) While they’ve been around the web quite a bit lately, this video is via Deb.

NOTHING MAKES ME WANT TO return to childhood more (well, maybe except for The Red Balloon) than this puppet show scene from Truffaut’s 1959 film, The 400 Blows. (Clearly, I’m speaking of returning to my non-existent, retro French childhood. Sigh.)

HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT TO be a part of this family? I’d gladly be the sister to that bride or that groom (or that fantastic mum in purple!) because I’m willing to bet most days with them include a Queen-like ambiance and many good jokes. I’ll settle, however, for attending wedding half as great as this one.
