Hi Margaret,
Shirley Valentine, Under the Tuscan Sun and Moonlight and Valentino come to mind easily. I suspect this is going to be a very looong list and should be.
Thanks for all that you are doing for us. Love your site.

Wow. I love this list. and I eat up the words that go back and forth between women who get women. Recently, a strong woman said to me, "you make them uncomfortable." "There's nothing that's more unsettling to some women than a woman who's sure of herself." We laughed. This post, this web site is a heavently find, like finding a rare woman who's not appreciated, and yet she survives. No one can thrive without friends. In the absence of women I've found a few rare males who are confidantes too. In their name please consider, "Priscilla Queen of the Dessert", and "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar."

I love the sisters (played by Jean Arthur and Ann Miller) in Frank Capra's "You Can't Take It With You". The sisters are part of an eccentric family who prize creativity and friendship much more than money. They started on this path when Grandpa (Lionel Barrymore), a successful businessman, was going up in the elevator to work one day when he suddenly realized that he wasn't having any fun. He promptly quit the job and began living life much more creatively. Alice (Arthur) falls for a young James Stewart whose parents are wealthy over-achievers. The plot thickens when the two families meet, The story is based on a Moss / Hart play. I have seen this movie so many times and it never fails to make me laugh and cry.
