Lindsay Keating-Moore's Feminist Montage Dress

P UTTING TOGETHER LAST week’s musing on the Brontë sisters, I stumbled upon the work of Minneapolis artist Lindsay Keating-Moore, who hand-cuts stencil portraits of famous feminists and uses the stencils to decorate recycled T-shirts and dresses, even buttons. The portraits are strong and gorgeous, the clothing fantastic, and the footprint enviable: about as green as you can get. Have a look, in a slideshow:

We’ve included some of Lindsay’s fab femmes here, but be sure to visit both her Etsy store and her blog. We’re impressed with her artistry and her advocacy, and think you will be, too. Now, we just have to decide: the Brontë T, the feminist montage dress, or the Simone de Beauvoir top? Maybe all three. Sometimes wearing your heart on your sleeve is the best path, sisters.

I need to be more careful to look over the whole post before commenting. Frida Kahlo and bell hooks too! Once I was in Puerto Rico and convinced my family to visit a Frida Kahlo museum. Too bad it’s not closer to home, because I highly recommend it. And bell hooks is one of my favorite authors, but I’m ashamed to say I’ve only read two of her books.

E–I know, I know. Not only is the concept brilliant and the work really well done, but the selections of women is both wide and deep…we could do a whole post (or seven) on the feminist history Lindsay is offering up via her most excellent tees. Glad you liked ‘em!
