THERE’S CAMP, HIGH CAMP, and then there is sister camp, arguably the campiest-camp of all, certainly in the world of movies, where the reigning sister-camp pic is, of course, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.” Happily it is not alone in the genre. Oh yes, there are others, my new favorite of which is “The Queen’s Sister.” Up for some sister camp, sisters? Here’s your film.
The 2005 movie begins with the disclaimer, “some of the following is based on fact. Some isn’t,” and follows from there, mincing through the life of Princess Margaret, sister to Queen Elizabeth II, as she romps through 1950s, 60s and into the 1970s.
Self-absorbed? Oh, yes she was, much to her sister’s distress. A little bit of nyphomania plus a whole lot of alcohol, thrown together amid the backdrop of castles, and royal homes, all decked out in 1960-s British fashion; throw in the delicious Toby Stephens as Tony Armstrong-Jones, and you have yourself a high time indeed. Lucy Cohu, as Margaret, is smashing, providing a rollicking peek where we non-royals do not usually get to go.
Order up on Netflix, mix some cocktails, skewer a shrimp or two, and have at it, sisters. You’ll have a ball.

A good example of how one (wild) sister’s reputation can adversely impact on the other. I recall arriving at a High School my elder sister previously attended, and being told by the Head Mistress that she hoped I would not live up to my sister’s reputation!! Luckily, the HM was also my English teacher, a subject I loved, and she got to witness how sisters are not always alike. In fact, one sister may go to extraordinary lengths to be the opposite of their sister, to avoid such comparision. I saw ‘Baby Jane’ movie when I was 10 yrs old, ghastly movie and I couldnt sleep afterward – probably even looked at my older sister in a different (dark) light. Watched the movie again last year with my teen daughter & it is still scary, only I see so much more now, like the parenting of the sisters, as well as the relationship. Terrific movie.
Hi, Nicole, and welcome to TSP, where we love our campy sister flicks. Oh, yes: Baby Jane. What a nightmare that produced for me, as well. Do check out our rather extensive list of sister flicks here, as well, and see if any of these keep you up nights. And please do come back soon for more.
