DRAGGING OUT the 6-foot-tall red tinsel tree that has become a mainstay of my holiday décor, I think of my sister. Ah, Margaret, the one person whose aesthetic sense can make me tame my own. My maximalist tinsel, swags, bowls of ornaments, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, antlers on the dog way of looking at the holidays gets curtailed at the mere thought of her. Simply put, we’re different decorators, she and I. She reels me in, each year keeping me one strand of tinsel short of a breakdown of all decorum by simply tut-tutting about as she does in my head (when not actually doing so in my house). Margaret is my Christmas Muse.
Not familiar with the Muses? I wrote about them for Sisterpedia recently, all nine of those fine classical sisters.
For me, the original list of the nine sisters needs only Margaret, Muse of Christmas Decorating Restraint, to be added to become complete.
You? Who would you add to those fine nine sisters who keep our creative juices flowing–who would your own private holiday Muse be?

Hysterical, Marion. I can totally envision the tut-tutting…
She is the Queen of Tut.
Not true, I am just exhausted and a little OCD after all the perfect Christmases at Martha Stewart. Have to make it just so…
Oh, come on, the red-headed sister has to have a red tinsel tree!
Well said, Elizabeth. Thank you!
