A Shout-Out, Sing-Along Thanks to the Sisterhood of the Bra

by marionroach on September 8, 2009

This post is part of TSP’s network-wide “Sisters I’ve Met Along the Way” celebration, marking 9 months of blogging together, and the women (and men) we’ve met.

braI NEVER THOUGHT when I first wrote about bra-shopping months ago that it would prove the start of such a supportive (sorry!) new sisterhood. This song is my attempt to start to thank some of those I’ve met as a result.

To be sung to the tune of The Yellow Rose of Texas. Oh, yeah.

‘Thanks to the Sisterhood of the Bra’

If ever I should lose my way
You’d be the first to write,
Reminding me that possibly
It’s just my bra’s too tight.

As April did, you’d tell me that
You’re proud I raise my voice,
And Marti’s post confirms that menopause
Gives us no choice.

Deb Wilson’s joyous nod to my good marriage
Did the trick,
Especially when the sentiment
Was seconded by Nick.

“Bra Lady” came from roadchick
On a day I was quite blue,
Reminding me that humor’s nearly as good
As new red shoes.

Renovation Therapy is shouting out with us,
And Donna Miller
Likens all her bad bras
To a truss.

But Missy then reminded me
That there really is an art,
In betting on the nags
Whose names are based on body parts.

And brothers, oh we’ve heard from you,
There’s Kevin, Steve and Keith,
Laughing right along with us
Providing some relief.

Though nothing can quite quell
The hell Priscilla does endure
When taking Mom bra shopping,
It sure sounds like Dante’s tour.

Though Georgie, she has done it, too
And somehow she’s survived,
The fitting room with Momma
And coming out alive.

You’ve piled on the friendship
While you pile on the grins,
Too many names to mention all
So many tales to spin.

So keep those comments coming
Sisters, every word is dear
Who knew we’d find a sisterhood
Stitched into our brassieres?

Absolutely genius, Marion. Love it.

LOL! Love it. This reminds me, I desperately need to buy some new bras…eek. LOL

Oh, brilliant, Marion. Strappy! Creatively supportive! I love these reminders of the lovely thread you’ve started.

Hi, Amy: So lovely to read you here again. Thank you. My sister used the word, ah, “deranged,” I think, after reading this post of mine. Yup. That was the one. You bet. Ha! Wait ’til I tell her that you used the “g” word. I think that trumps her. Come back soon.

Hey there, Renovation Therapy. So glad you liked being the in the song. Sing it proud, sister, as you brave those dark, stormy and cloistered fitting rooms. Shout it out, and maybe you’ll find the perfect fit. Do let us know.

Hey, Marilyn. “Strappy,” and “creatively supportive,” are delightful, funny boosts, and much appreciated. Thanks so much. And come back soon to TSP, please, where a rant is as good as a nod.

This would be great with ukulele backup.

Hi, David. And welcome back to TSP. Yes. Yes, indeed, that would be just the ticket, wouldn’t it? Ha ha ha. I’ll get my ukulele-playing husband on it mucho pronto. Thanks for the suggestion. And come back soon. We love hearing from you.

Marion (YamSisterGirlfriend),
Although I have had the good fortune of being the recipient of more than one of your musical reinterpretations, I may have to agree with sister Margaret, that this little bra ditty is truly “deranged.”

However I look forward to singing it with you and your ukulele -playing husband real soon. Congratulations to everyone at TSP on your latest offspring.

Hello, Shaya! And welcome back to TSP, where deranged ukulele music is always on the lips. You’ve been here before, of course, when we served you up some equally deranged birthday love. We’re delighted to read you here again, and look very much forward to singing the bra song with you. Thank you for the kind words of congratulations. We’re so glad you like our offspring. Please come back soon.
