Pisces in the Third House: Sheilaa’s Own Sister Story

By Sheilaa Hite
IHAVE ALWAYS KNOWN that sisters are special, but I’ve only experienced from the outside looking in. You see, I’m the only girl in my family–I have two brothers, and I’m the middle child.

My mother tells me that, as a small child, I was relentless in begging her for a baby sister. So relentless, in fact, that she had to consult an astrologer for advice on how to shut me up. Mom was advised to take me shopping, buy two or three of everything I liked, come home, lay all of the purchases out and follow a script.

This is how it went:

MOM (holding up a dress): “Do you like this dress?”

ME: “Oh, yes, Mommy, it’s so pretty, I love it!”

MOM (holding up a second dress): “Do you like this dress?”

ME: “Yes, Mommy, its pretty, too!”

MOM (holding up a third dress): “You know, if you had a little sister, you could only have one new dress because she’d have to have new dresses, too.”

As she held up each new item, this scenario was played out. I might have only been 3 years old, but I was no dummy. By the time she reached for the first pair of shoes, I said, “That’s OK, Mommy, I don’t want a little sister anymore.”

I did still want a little sister, but not if she got in the way of my “stuff!” That astrologer knew what she/he was talking about because I’m a Capricorn with Leo planets and we love our “stuff.” Given the choice between having pretty “stuff” or a little sister–well, the little sister never stood a chance.

Because my Moon (planet) is in the Third House in the sign of Pisces, and Pisces is also the sign that governs my Third House, in my heart, I never stopped wanted that sister-to-sister relationship. I was lonely for it, and I knew something was missing from my life. As a result, throughout my life, I’ve sought to create “family,” especially sisters, wherever I go.

Looking at my astrological birth chart, it’s easy to see that that would be the case: My Third House–sisters and my environment, with the Moon in it (women, family and nurturing ) and the sign Pisces (loss, disappointment, longing and creative fantasy).
