I‘VE BEEN A SLACKER of late when it comes to reading, as the piles on my nightstands can attest. But I think the first new book I’ll add to the stacks will have to be Gail Collins’ When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present, a history of the transformations of women’s lives from 1960 to the present.
As the first woman selected to edit the New York Times’ editorial page (she left that position in 2007 to work on this book) Collins knows quite a bit about pathbreaking, and her current columns on topics ranging from the economy to celebrity culture to the possible coming end of soap operas are, at least for me, always provocative and enlightening to read. You can read an excerpt from the book here.
