Listen Up, Sisters: Scissor Sisters

by paige on August 21, 2010

YouTube Preview ImageHOW CAN IT be that for years now, I’ve been missing out on the Scissor Sisters?

These flamboyant disco überdivas, four men and one redheaded bombshell, Ana Matronic, make the perfect, can’t stop dancing, slightly ridiculous sound I need to feed my soul and move my feet now that summer is (sadly!) careening to a close.

Some might find them outrageous, I suppose: the band take its name from a sexual position (yes, one involving two women) and the cover of their latest album is a Robert Mapplethorpe image of a man’s behind. But me?  I’m putting them on my soundtrack, stat, and I suggest you do the same. (For a totally delightful perspective on the band from band member Babydaddy’s childhood best friend, have a listen to this NPR story. You won’t regret it.)

The entire Mullin family LOVES Scissor Sisters…it’s especially funny to see Aidan singing “Gonna take my mama out tonight and show her what it’s all about; get her jacked up on some cheap champagne…”
Yep, that’s the kind of parenting we do….
