Join Us for 2 Free Readings, and Comment to Win ‘Sisters’

by margaret on February 10, 2010

WHEN PARIS PRESS PUBLISHED THE ANTHOLOGY ‘SISTERS’ recently, we were thrilled. What a collection of writings, from de Beauvoir to Ephron, all on our favorite (if sometimes overlooked) topic: sisters and sisterhood. Now TSP sisters Marion Roach Smith and Margaret Roach have been asked by the non-profit press to do readings from the book and from their own work—and you’re invited. It’s all free—as are four copies of the book we’ll give away here the next month. The scoop:

Sunday, March 7 – Reading at Berkshire Botanical Garden, Stockbridge, MA, with Margaret Roach and Marion Roach Smith, to celebrate Paris Press’ publication of “Sisters” anthology. 2 PM. Free, but RSVP to info at parispress dot org. For directions, www.berkshirebotanical.org.

Monday, March 15 – Reading at Arts Center for the Capital Region, Troy, NY, with Marion Roach Smith and Margaret Roach, to celebrate Paris Press’ publication of “Sisters” anthology. 7 PM. Free, but must RSVP to info at parispress dot org. For directions, www.artscenteronline.org.

Can’t make it but want to win a free copy of the book so you can do your own reading (silently or out loud)? You have to write a sentence or two on the subject yourself to enter. Our challenge:

Answer our favorite fill-in-the-blank: You know you’re a sister when…

Each Wednesday, starting February 17 and running through March 10, we’ll select a random sentiment from among your offerings, using random dot com, and reward that sister (or brother) with a book.

Let the sisterly expressions begin.

… you can take your sister’s word for something without her explicitly giving her word. I call it trust telepathy.

You know you’re a sister when…you become the ‘keeper’ of the family recipes and traditions.

You know you’re a sister when… you can have the biggest blowout but the next day all is forgiven.

You know you’re a sister when….you know why she’s calling you just by how she says, “It’s me.”

For me, you know you’re a -little- sister when you are nearing your 30′s and still want more than ever to be just like your big sister. I call it the little sister complex. I proudly except this calling in life. How could it be bad to be like you’re amazing big sister??
