Somebody Silence My Sister!

by margaret on July 19, 2010

By Paige Smith Orloff
I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY PARENTS who felt (with guilt aplenty, of course) that they wished their children, sometimes, you know, just for a moment, time to collect one’s thoughts, or maybe just form a thought…could you all, please, just for a second, BE QUIET? Apparently, this is a sibling issue, too. A tale of how my son feels about little sister’s latest soliloquies.

Happy Birthday, Sleepy Brother

by margaret on July 16, 2010

zzzzzzzzz...on the couch before we left and then on the shores of the river.

By Anastasia Smith
HOW LUCKY AM I to be able spend some quality time with my brother T on his birthday? It’s been way too long since we hung out. (Six months!) To celebrate his 29th year, we brought a picnic lunch to the Green River. In true T style, however, all he wanted to do was nap. What the birthday boy wants, the birthday boy gets, right?

Sibling Savagery: How to Cope?

by margaret on June 16, 2010

By Paige Smith Orloff
RIVALRY? HA! THAT’S teeny, tiny potatoes. My resident little sister and big brother–my beautiful kids–have tabled competition, in favor of all out war. It’s looking like Afghanistan in my house: no end in sight. How do you cope?

A Sibling Ensemble at Nicholas K

by margaret on May 2, 2010

good brother...good style...I'm in love.

By Anastasia Smith
LET ME TELL YOU: watching the MTV “reality” show The City is one of my favorite guilty pleasures ever. As you may know, this week marked the new season premiere. (Did you watch?) And so while I lay in bed soaking up all the new season gossip and Kelly Cutrone quips, I noticed a painfully handsome man sitting around at People’s Revolution. And then he spoke! And MTV told me that he was a designer for a brand called Nicholas K! And thus I put my stalker skills to work. Get the story.

Bill Murray’s Dramatic Sister

by margaret on March 4, 2010

YOU PROBABLY KNOW by now that here at The Sister Project, we can’t resist a good sister story, and we love the sisters known as nuns, but this particular piece of news took us by surprise. Bill Murray is one of our favorite actors and comedians (seen his hilarious turn as himself in last year’s Zombieland?) but we didn’t know that one of his eight siblings is a Catholic nun, and a dramatic one at that. Our Sister Paige has the story.

by margaret on November 18, 2009

men-in-the-kitchenIT’S BEEN A TOUGH YEAR for John, our beloved brother-friend, and subject (as well as object) of our series, Teaching John to Cook. But a year it has been since his wonderful partner died, and since all of you, in response, took on the loving assignment of teaching him to cook. And look! Here comes Thanksgiving, that high holy day of recipes, and we’re asking you for some for a man on his own to bring to the table. Read on.

A Call With Bro: Stinky Outcome

by margaret on September 24, 2009

brotherflexingSINCE LEAVING FOR GRAD SCHOOL, Sister Anastasia hasn’t been able to connect much with Big Brother T…until the other day, finally. Guess how it went? (Read: This is a brother we are talking about.) The sorry outcome is here.

When In Doubt, Dessert

by margaret on September 1, 2009

men-in-the-kitchenWHEN IN DOUBT, DESSERT. It might be Sister Marion’s new motto. It would make a good T-shirt, wouldn’t it? Hmmm. Anyway, it certainly is a motto she’s using for her friend John, of Teaching John to Cook, the subject of an occasional series here on TSP on how to sister a guy-pal into the kitchen. Marion’s sweet latest installment is here.

When Kids Turn Cats-and-Dogs

by margaret on July 30, 2009

sibseditMIDDLE TSP SISTER PAIGE CAN BARELY BUDGE, or catch a break, what with the cats-and-dogs behavior that’s suddenly overtaken her formerly so-sweet-together kids. Any moms (or siblings) out there want to reassure only-child Paige that this, too, shall pass? She’s waiting for your advice.

TSP: Ultimate Romance-Blocker

SISTER ANASTASIA’S MOTHER (above right) tried to set up Big Brother T (left) on a blind date, but baby sister’s blog foiled the whole thing. Seriously. This blogging stuff has fierce mojo.

LB says goodbye to Tessa before school.

GOOD GOD, SAYS SISTER ANASTASIA, HAS ANYTHING SWEETER graced the pages of the internet than the birth of Tessa Tangerine to the blogging family at Pacing the Panic Room? Don’t know what she’s talking about? (“Who gave birth to a tangerine?”) Allow her to explain how this growing family has stolen her heart.

by Anastasia on July 8, 2009

margeeLAST WEEK, TSP READER Margee Cooper sent us a 1964 photo (above) shot with her sister, Linda. And as you know, every picture tells a story. Margee’s is a humdinger, and to encourage you to share yours, we’ve included it here with a little slideshow of other new friends’ captioned images of sisterhood. [click to continue…]
