THIS WEEK, SADLY, the only thing Sister Paige is away from is her computer: instead of concocting cocktails or laughing her way through her treasured collection of vintage Ladies’ Auxiliary cookbooks, she’s labeling clothing, disinfecting lunchboxes and wondering how the hell she’s going to get four people dressed and out the door by 7:30 this morning, when, yes, the school year officially begins for the Rock and the River and by extension, the Husband and Paige. Sound familiar? Have a closer listen to the sound of non-vacation.
NOT ASKING YOUR SISTER is dumb. Marion should know, having learned that lesson when her daughter was 5, and told Marion that she wanted to be a boy. Actually, it was more specific than that. She told Marion she wanted a penis. Too bad Marion didn’t call her sister, Margaret. Here’s how it went instead.

WHY WOULD SISTER MARION be asked to speak at a school commencement, her daughter wanted to know? She is no one’s idea of a traditional role model. But she has been able to chart a life to do what she loves, so her speech turned out to be a list of rules to help the girls do just that. Get her 15 Rules for Living, from overseas travel to a certain pair of red shoes.

IF YOU CAN’T TAKE THE HEAT, Sister Paige figures, make soup. And that’s what she and her little “sister” the Rock, as she calls her youngest, are doing, the best tomato soup ever (with carrots as the secret ingredient). Will summer, and school vacation, ever end? Help the girls stir the pot.
MIDDLE TSP SISTER PAIGE CAN BARELY BUDGE, or catch a break, what with the cats-and-dogs behavior that’s suddenly overtaken her formerly so-sweet-together kids. Any moms (or siblings) out there want to reassure only-child Paige that this, too, shall pass? She’s waiting for your advice.
L ITTLE BEAN, AKA LUCY MARIE AHERN, TURNS 1 TODAY. No, she technically isn’t our sister, but her mama, Gluten-Free Girl Shauna James Ahern is, as you may recall from the profile TSP ran on her. Go check out how mama and papa (The Chef) are celebrating a miraculous year of medical dramas, triumphs, and the biggest love (which comes in small packages), and give Little Bean our love, won’t you? T WENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO today our youngest TSP sister, Anastasia Smith, was caught by her midwife and namesake, Anastasia (together, left). Anastasia the Elder ferried from Vermont to the Adirondacks when no one else would, because 24 years ago home births were illegal in New York State. To celebrate the event, Anastasia the Younger put together a slideshow of newborns and the women who helped bring them into the world, a sisterhood she’s grateful and proud to be part of. Come congratulate her and the other bundles of joy.
REMEMBER SISTER PAIGE’S summer goals? Now that the season’s more than one-third past (read that bit again, why don’t you, as you weep into your iced coffee) she’s checking in with herself and with us, a status report that perhaps includes fewer fireflies and miles run than hoped for, but (get this) 16 hours alone with her husband. Yup. The juicy details.

O UR FAVORITE PETITE FRENCHIE, Capucine, who’s like a baby sister to all of us at TSP, turned 5 last week, and her mama made a tribute video for her. Help Anastasia wish Capucine a Bon Anniversaire!

We’ve been speculating about this sisterhood like the rest of the world, and welcome Leta and Marlo to the ranks of sisterhood with blessings.
