WE ALL SAY it so often it’s become a cliché: this online world of ours, it really is its own community, maybe even a family, a sisterhood. We admired the Gluten Free Girl from afar; then we profiled her here; and now, we are thrilled to say, we have become IRL (that’s “in real life”) friends, too.
Read on for all the delicious details of our very own dinner with Shauna (and Dan and baby Lu, too.)

FROM A SISTER-FRIEND she’s known since age 15 and others adopted along the way, Shauna James Ahern learned to be herself, and unafraid. Those traits, combined with her exceptional culinary creativity, put the Gluten-Free Girl at the center of a sisterhood (and a brotherhood) of passionate cooks who follow a gluten-free diet but don’t compromise their palates. Read her story in the TSP Galleries, which we’re reprising after seeing news that Shauna will be teaching food writing online this fall; we wanted to make sure all you food-mad sisters knew. See you in class?

L ITTLE BEAN, AKA LUCY MARIE AHERN, TURNS 1 TODAY. No, she technically isn’t our sister, but her mama, Gluten-Free Girl Shauna James Ahern is, as you may recall from the profile TSP ran on her. Go check out how mama and papa (The Chef) are celebrating a miraculous year of medical dramas, triumphs, and the biggest love (which comes in small packages), and give Little Bean our love, won’t you? She’s delicious, and you can get to know her here. (Photo by the amazing photographer Clare Barboza.)
