2009: The Year in Numbers

By Sheilaa Hite

WHAT DOES 2009 hold for you and your sisters in all the manifestations of that word? Each year has its own powerful, energetic dynamic, both astrologically and numerologically. Whenever I assess the energy dynamic of any year, I start with its numerological “footprint,” its universal year number, determined by adding together its component numbers. So for 2009–2 plus 9 equals 11, then 1 plus 1 equals 2.

Like everything in the Universe, each number carries its own unique energy, In the case of 2009, a unique year numerologically, both the 11 and the 2, expressed as “11/2,” tell us what the year is about.

The first number—11—is an important teaching energy, a “master” number that describes the big picture. It tells us that we’ll have to deal with powerful, often-unpredictable, larger-than-life, transformational circumstances beyond our immediate control.

The second number—2—tells us how we, as individuals, can get the most out of the experience of living in the big-picture energy of such a powerful year.

In all of our dealings this year, we’ll be challenged to discover who we really are and to live from that place. The 2 is what’s called the value-determination number in the case of 2009, the number that determines the meaning and value an experience, event, and/or a relationship holds for us.

The number 2 rules all the ‘co’ words, and uses ‘co’ energy—cooperate, communicate, connect, coordinate, combine, commit—anything that brings two or more people or entities together.

The 2 is particularly relevant to the subject of sisters and sisterhood and to siblings in general, as it’s an inclusive and synergistic number that relates to partnerships. The number 2 rules all the “co” words, and uses “co” energy—cooperate, communicate, connect, coordinate, combine, commit—anything that brings two or more people or entities together.

We are more powerful and prolific than we know. In the chaos of our daily lives we have forgotten that we are spiritual beings; instead, we have become “human-doings”—most of us are doing in order to avoid being.

This year, the circumstances of life will ask us who we are, what we value and what we’re committed to. And it will demand a definitive answer. If you’re used to sitting on the fence—that won’t work this year—you’ll have to take a stand.

The circumstances and energy forces of this year will encourage us to re-examine and re-establish our relationship with ourselves so that we can live more authentic and meaningful lives. Time and again, the main question life will ask is, “What value does this circumstance, situation, person, relationship, etc., truly have for you?”

The answer can only be found within—nothing and no one outside of ourselves can provide us with it. What we will become by going through this process is the real gift.
